2026 President's Message

Jan. 01, 2026

Dear Sabrecats Families,

As we open the 2026 season, I want to take a moment to welcome each of you back to another exciting year of lacrosse. On behalf of our Board of Directors, coaches, volunteers, and staff, thank you for being part of the Sabrecats community. The energy, commitment, and pride that surrounds this club continues to grow, and we are incredibly excited about what lies ahead.

The upcoming season marks an important step forward for our organization. Our focus remains clear: creating the best possible experience for our players and families while continuing to raise the standard of lacrosse development in our community. I am proud to share that players across all age groups will see an average 38% increase in total practice and game opportunities this season. This expanded on-floor experience is a direct investment in player development, confidence, and love for the game.

We are also excited to introduce several meaningful initiatives in 2026. This will be the inaugural year of our Sabrecats Bursary Program, created to ensure that financial barriers never stand in the way of a child’s ability to participate in our sport. We are committed to building an inclusive program where every athlete has the opportunity to play and grow.

Our youngest divisions continue to be a major focus for us in 2026. We are placing renewed emphasis on our U7 and U9 programs as we work to attract new athletes and introduce lacrosse as a complementary sport for young players, particularly those balancing hockey and other activities. These early years are critical in shaping confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of the game.

For our U11 to U17 athletes, registration fees this year will include an evaluation pinnie as well as custom team jerseys featuring player numbers and player name bars.  We are confident this will build pride, identity, and a strong sense of belonging within each team. Say goodbye to the dreaded, “Jersey Parent” role in 2026.

We also want to be transparent that Lacrosse Canada has significantly increased its national fees this year. While this impacts overall registration costs, our board has worked diligently to absorb as much of this increase as possible while continuing to deliver a high-quality experience for our players and families.

Looking ahead, we are excited to launch a new live and online Sabrecats Merchandise Store in 2026. Families will be able to purchase branded apparel and gear at evaluations, tournaments, special events, and online throughout the season. In addition, a brand-new Sabrecats website is currently in development and will launch in Q1 2026, offering improved communication, resources, and access to information.

As always, none of this would be possible without our volunteers. We will be calling on our community to support several important initiatives this season, including a Casino, the Timberfest Tournament, 50/50 ticket sales at an upcoming Roughnecks game, and merchandise sales at club events. The time and energy you commit is truly the backbone of this organization.

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to our Board of Directors for their ongoing leadership and commitment, to our coaches who generously dedicate their time and expertise to developing our athletes, and to the many team managers, content champions, and parent volunteers who step up to make every season possible.

It is truly an honour to serve as President of the Sabrecats Lacrosse Club. I am incredibly proud of how far we have come together, and I remain deeply committed to continuing to strengthen this organization, grow the game of lacrosse, and create meaningful, memorable experiences for every family involved. While we know there is always room to improve, I have complete confidence in the leadership, vision, and unity of this club as we continue raising the bar for what a community lacrosse organization can be in Canada.

Thank you for your trust, your support, and your passion for the game. I look forward to an outstanding 2026 season together.

Happy New Year.

Jason Hardy
